Both Vortica Disc Golf and the Disc Golf Wanaka club formed at roughly the same time, in 2011, with Martin Galley driving the formation of both. The fledgling club had a course designed, but no funding, and so the newly formed Vortica Disc Golf loaned the cost of the baskets to the club, in order to get the DGC installed in March 2012.

Rounds played annually

Lismore Park is a sparkling jewel, created by retreating glaciers, with wide open holes and wide open views for the most part. On an elevated spine ascending away from the lake, the course offers amazing views over Wanaka township, the lake, and into the main divide via Haast Pass.

The course varies between technical touch shots from the teepad, to full-rips from others. And when a powerful drive is required, it is usual for even wildly inaccurate drives to result in a 3, such is the nature of many holes.

During certain times of year (January through December :P ) it can get very windy in Wanaka, and when this happens, you are best served by playing somewhere else – like the challenging Confluence DGC close by, another DGW effort.

Lismore DGC is the location of the annual Lords and Ladies of Lismore NZDG tour event, held since 2013, run by Martin Galley, Vortica, and DGW.

The Lismore course is easy to score on, but tricky to carry a great score throughout an entire round. It has endless re-playability, and is recommended for all levels of player. Vortica are proud to be associated with the course.
