When Martin moved to Twizel in 1996 he helped form the "Twizel Frisbee Golf Club". 12 months later they’d convinced the Twizel council that Frisbee Golf was the future, and so an object course with some distinctly odd targets was installed in 1997.

 

The course has evolved tremendously over the decades, and as a group effort, over an extended period of time, no single person can claim to be the designer, nor the installer.

 

Martin Galley has a tremendous affinity with Twizel, and he hosts the much-loved annual Twizel Moonbase NZDG tour event there each year (Along with a second DGC… Watch this space!), and it’s he who continuously pushed the Twizel club until the course targets were all baskets, plus the historical tone hole. It rings in G minor, for up to 27 seconds. :) 

 

The course has many challenges, particularly in the wind, and if you add up how many birdies you could take, the score is a very good one indeed – but double and triple bogies are lurking at every turn, and so to even score par at Twizel is doing quite well.

 

Those who know Twizel absolutely love it. On a hot summer’s day, with the shade, and the crickets, and the incredible views to Aoraki, and the main divide, you couldn’t think of a better place to be.

 

And in winter, the crisp still mornings will dazzle you as the sun hits the hoar-frosted grass and trees, and you’ll imagine you’re in some diamond-encrusted disc golf heaven.

 

This is a course even relative newcomers to the game will enjoy, and experts fall in love with.
